The level of investment in new schemes varies across the country with quite pronounced differences irrespective of the funding route. There are many factors that contribute to the level of investment ranging from affordability to the adequacy of the current infrastructure. However the major determinant is probably local leadership, with someone driving schemes forward, often against the odds.

The NHS is spoilt for choice when it comes to funding options, particularly with the freedoms that Foundation Trusts have. David’s view is that generally we don’t need any radical new funding routes.
