Inventures Commissioned for National Project
Inventures has been appointed by the Department of Health to undertake an investigation into availability and extent of the usage of simulation facilities by NHS staff in England. This investigation forms part of the analysis into developing a national simulation strategy as recommended by the NHS Next Stage Review and will take forward the recommendations in The Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) Annual Report 2008 – Safer Medical Practice as the report identified that simulation-based training should be fully integrated into clinician’s training programmes.
State of the art simulation centres use robotic patient simulators to create realistic medical situations ensuring professionals are exposed to the full breadth of scenarios, which can save lives.
To support plans for future provision, Inventures will work with English Strategic Health Authorities (SHA’s) to ensure understanding and engagement whilst establishing policy and funding arrangements.
The draft study report will be prepared for a stakeholder review workshop on 4 February 2010 in London after which the report will be finalised.
